Late Winter Land Tending Weekend at River’s Bend With Returning of the Sun & Full Moon!
Friday - Sunday | Feb 4 - 6, 2023
Join us out on the land, fire and water, continuing to deepen our learning about and connection with this mixed Oak and coastal redwoods ecosystem that so many of us belong to and love. Re-member the total joy of embodied work, outside, in community!
Early February in coastal california is its own version of Gaelic ceremony time called “Imbolc”, a time of honoring the beginning of Spring, rebirth, halfway between solstice and equinox, a time for spring cleaning and divination, and the feast day for the Goddess and Saint Brigid.

A few ways we’ll get to feel the pulse of this season (and learn more about this land):
Clearing - what is of the last season - in many ways
Clearing fuel for fire that doesn’t serve (working with our Fir trees and Eucalyptus grove to clear undergrowth and “laddering fuels” as well as . . .
Clearing to make way for baby oaks ready to grow, clearing for health of the grandparent Oaks.
Clearing to support balance, through the removal of invasive weeds that can easily take over - for instance, Scotch Broom
Tending Soil - Readying Garden beds. Clearing, weeding, possibly sowing.
Feel the Land getting ready. first stirrings of spring, when the ground feels the first sense of warming after winter. A time for planting the seeds for the next cycle, after the deep contemplation of solstice, when we can consider the metaphorical seeds we want to plant.
Planting and Supporting Baby Trees - Supporting the next generation for our Riparian areas Re-wilding some areas around the pond
Honoring the Sun and Regenerative Carbon Cycles: Tending to a healthy Carbon Cycle by burning in ways that create biochar that can sequester that ancient sunlight for the good of soil health!
More TBD! (there’s always more!:)
